LEGO Video Game Podcast Renewed for New Seasons
April 14, 2021The popular LEGO® Bits N’ Bricks podcast was renewed for another season that will run through the rest of the year as it continues to explore the rich 25-year history of the LEGO Group’s digital play and video games, the company announced today.
Season one of the series, which includes 19 episodes, was the first to publicly delve into unreleased and secret projects like the mothballed toys-to-life KidPad, the LEGO Group’s skunkworks Strategic Project Unit Darwin, and Brickcraft, the LEGO game codenamed Project Rex Kwon Do that was in development by Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson.
The series discussed everything from 1995’s LEGO Fun to Build – the first LEGO game ever made – to the digital evolution of the minifigure, gendered play, and how Overwatch came to get its own theme sets.
The first season wrapped up in April by featuring back-to-back interviews with some of the company’s executive leadership team, the head of LEGO Games, and Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, grandson of the founder of the company and former president and CEO of the LEGO Group.
Announced during an epilogue to the first season, the Bits N’ Bricks podcast will return in May with new episodes exploring more games and history from the LEGO Group. Among season two’s possible topics are episodes suggested by fans. That includes potential episodes on the history of the LEGO Bionicle video games, LEGO Loco, LEGO Rock Raiders, and, of course, more of the wonderful TT Games creations.
More details about the upcoming episodes will be announced at a later date.
The season finale featured a group chat with co-hosts Brian Crecente and Ethan Vincent, who were joined by LEGO Group associate product lead Nannan Li; Ronny Scherer, podcast executive producer and senior director of LEGO Games Asia-Pacific; and Dave Tach, the new producer for the show.
The group discussed the process for making episodes, some of their favorite anecdotes and quotes, as well as some interesting numbers. The episodes of the first season were downloaded more than 1.1 million times by listeners, featured about 80 interviews, and ran a total of about 17 hours combined.
